Parish Council Elections

The 1st May 2025 is when Parish Council elections take place in Northamptonshire. Hartwell Parish Council need you, members of the local community to stand for election as a Parish Councillor!!

The Parish Council consists of 11 members and 3 staff.  We strive to make Hartwell an amazing place to live, work and play.  We are looking for members of the community to stand for the Parish Council election.

We need people from all backgrounds and experiences, who are passionate about their local community, confident with IT and have a few hours spare each month. Councillors make a huge difference to the quality of life of local people and how local issues are dealt with.

What’s Involved? 

You will need to be available to meet once a month and have time to receive and read correspondence outside of these meetings.  Councillors are not paid but act in this role because they are passionate about the community and must abide by a local government code of conduct.  Training to help you in your role is provided and paid for by the Council.

What do Parish Councillors do? 

Councillors are the voice for Hartwell, meet regularly and make decisions about the direction of the council and the work it does for the community.  The Council uses the democratic process, by voting on all the decisions it makes, so it can hopefully make the right choices for the community it serves.

Who can stand for election in Hartwell 

  • Registered Government Electors
  • Owners or tenants who live or occupy any land or other premises in the parish area
  • Those whose main or only place of work is in the parish area
  • Living in the parish area or within three miles of it.

Who can not stand for election in Hartwell

  • Paid employees or officer of the parish council
  • Those subject to bankruptcy restrictions or debt relief restriction orders (interim orders)
  • Those sentenced to a term of imprisonment of three months or more (including suspended sentences) without the option of a fine, with a period of five years before poling day.
  • Those disqualified under the Representations of the People Act 1983, covering corrupt or illegal electoral practices and offences relating to donations.

Nominations Close on 2nd April 2025 at 4pm

NOMINATION PROCESS 

Due to expected numbers, WNC will be running an appointment system for the submission of nomination papers. Appointments are 15-minute slots and can be booked by emailing ReturningOfficer@westnorthants.gov.uk with your name, date and time you’d like to come in and a contact telephone number or calling the Elections Team on 01604 526130.  A member of the team will then contact you to arrange a date and time. You are welcome to just “turn up” at any of the locations during the dates and times given, however you may be required to wait until an officer is free to take your nomination paper and process it.

WNC are operating from The Guildhall One Stop Shop, Northampton on all days, but only specified days at The Abbey, Daventry and The Forum, Towcester full details will be included on the Notice of Election and are detailed below:
